I am here again, discussing Tosca Licenses. Let's talk about Commuter and Cloud License now.
Commuter License:- If you want to use your Floating License as Node Locked License then there is an alternate way that Tricentis provides, but what purpose it will serve, let's see.
As up to this point, we have understood that Node Locked Licenses are meant for only one workstation at a time whereas Floating Licenses are used in a sharing mode, which sometimes is not what you desire as you might face license lost issues, license not found issues, and long waits for invoking Tosca. In order to overcome these issues, you can assign one dedicated Floating License to your workstation and this License would now act as commuter license. As an add-on, commuter licenses can be used to work offline also (in case when you are not connected with your license server).
Steps to configure Commuter License on your workstation:-
Step I:-Open Tosca License Manager by following the path Start -> All Programs -> Tricentis -> Tosca Testsuite -> License -> Tosca License Manager. Click on Extras -> Options from Tosca License Manager and select Floating as License Mode.
Note:- The Step I is written just to make that you have Floating License already configured with you on your workstation as you can only check out the Floating License to be used as Commuter License.
Step II:- From the left pan of Tosca License Manager Window where it is showing a summary of the licenses installed for your workstation, select the one which you want to be checked out by just right clicking on it and choosing Checkout from the context menu.
Step III:- A new dialog box will open up where you need to mention the validity of this Checkout in number of days out of 30 days and then click on Submit.
Step IV:- You will now be able to see your checked out license under Checked Out License option in the left pane of the Tosca License Manager.
Step V:- Now in order to use this Checked Out License as Commuter License, go to Extras -> Options in Tosca License Manager and choose Commuter License as License Mode and you are done.
Checking In Commuter Licenses:- Before checking in the license, the option Floating License must have been selected as License Mode by choosing it from Tosca License Manager's Extras -> Options. All the Checked out licenses are displayed in the left pane of Tosca License Manager. Select the License to be Checked In, right click on it and choose the option Checkin from the context menu. This license will now be provided as Floating License from the License Server.
If you have Checked Out multiple licenses, you can Checkin them all by right clicking on the root element i.e., Checked out Licenses and then select option Checkin All.
If you do not Checkin the licenses before your selected validity time, they are automatically released back to the server. You are required to delete the expired commuter licenses then by choosing Extras -> Remove expired commuter licenses option from Tosca's License Manager.
That was all about the Commuter License type of Tosca. Let's now discuss about Cloud License.
Cloud License:- Nowadays, everything is moving towards Cloud Platform and Testing is not left untouched by this change. And we are lucky enough that Tricnetis provides us with the facility of using Tosca License Services through its Cloud Server. No license server configuration is required to be done by you in that case.
All that you require to avail the service of Tricentis' Cloud License Service is provided to you in the license agreement that you receive from Tricentis. You need to have your customer account created at the Tricentis Support Portal and your Username and Password is required for activating your Cloud License.
Step I:- Invoke Tosca License Manager Service from you machine by following Start -> All Programs -> Tricentis -> Tosca Testsuite -> License -> Tosca License Manager and then from the dialog window choose Extras -> Options.
For the License Mode option, now you have to choose Cloud License option now.
You are required to provide your Support portal Username and Password, which will be authenticated at the time of this Cloud License Request from Tricentis.
You will receive the Cloud License Server's IP address with your license agreement from Tricentis and you need to provide it also. In case there are many Server Ports available, you can select your desired port.
When you will click on login, all the details provided will be authenticated and depending on verification, you will be provided with the license.
